I remember as a teenager i used to admire my mother for her sets of friends........her club activities....her outings with her friends.......
Although she used to take up her duties as a mother, wife and a house maker too well still she always found time for recreation......meeting her neighbors....friends......and she used to feel very happy.....
Over the years as i grew up i realized that she has an ability to make friends with even strangers with ease.....she would strike a conversation with anybody if she feels like doing so.....that is an admirable quality in her which continues till date.
Last month she fell sick. She got cut off from her social groups for almost a month due to her illness......
I found she was very eager to meet her peers as soon as she gets well......and moreover loved when somebody visited her home to inquire about her health.......slowly and slowly she recovered as at the age of seventy three it really takes time to get back to the original health level........
She had this thought at the back of her mind that she has to again mix up with her group of friends.
This whole episode put me to a thought process........
Generally as we grow old we start losing interest in keeping....maintaining friendship...........
Sometimes we avoid certain set of friends and at other times somebody avoids us.........
But the end result is the same.....that is we lose friends and lose opportunities to make and keep friendship alive........
I remember one more incident that of my father when he retired from his job......serving for around thirty five years.....
Suddenly he found himself to be too free.....without any work...with very little responsibilities to be handled on daily basis.........
Too much time....and not much to look forward to during the day.....in the evening.......
Earlier he had a set routine of working in the office from nine to five....and had little time and option left for much serious social activity......now he hardly had any friends so to say.
He started feeling a little sad.......
Someone suggested him to visit a nearby park....or some community gathering... or a senior citizen group....
By and by he followed the suggestion and found for himself good learned friends......and groups..... like him....where he communicated well.....which brought his happiness back......
At any stage of life one definitely needs a group of people.....the fun group..... where one can interact freely.....that is quite rejuvenating........
